Protecting Children

The needs of today’s family do not always reflect the laws in place necessary to regulate or protect the care and custody of children. For a child to be secure in their unique family unit, additional legal steps need to occur such as adoptions, advocacy and advice surrounding inheritance rights, plus other civil and human rights that should be intact. We understand that every child deserves a family structure that assures them certainty and reliable outcomes and we have the tools to make this happen.

We counsel, prepare, and facilitate second-parent and step-parent adoptions. We focus on the services that the LGBTQ+ community requires to form and protect their families. We appear in court for adoption proceedings and pre-birth orders under the brand new 2021 New York Child-Parent Security Act.

We prepare trusts on behalf of minors who are either inheriting assets from an estate or are receiving proceeds from a lawsuit. We also bring proceedings in court on behalf of a minor’s guardian or parent to approve the supplemental needs trust. We guide Trustees in their fiduciary responsibilities under these and other trusts.

For those children who require intense services because they are intellectually or developmentally disabled, we assist parents or loved ones who would like to establish long term care solutions.
